An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale hit the outskirts of Ardakan in the southern province of Fars Sunday morning. 
 
The country's seismological base affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the quake at 11:16 hours local time (0746 GMT), IRNA reported.

The quake was epicentered in an area located in 51.69 degrees longitude and 30.37 degrees latitude.

There is no immediate report on any damage to property by the quake.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
