Azerbaijan, Baku, June 10 /Trend/

Today two men were publicly executed in the Firdovsi square in Iranian city of Nishapur, Iranian site asriran.com reported.

City Prosecutor Nishapur Mahmoud Rafsanjani said that Mohammed and Muktar were executed on charges of rape.

Rafsanjani added that they, representing themselves as police officers, entered the house and threatening with a knife, raped the women.

According to international media, since the beginning of 2011, more than 155 people have been executed in Iran. More than 90 people were executed for drug smuggling and rape.

The UN and Amnesty International have repeatedly called on Iran to stop executions. Human rights activists argue that the number of people executed in Iran exceed the figures reported in official statistics.
