Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Tuesday that deepening ties with Iraq tops Iran's foreign policy, IRNA reported.

In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Hoshyar Zebari, Salehi expressed hope that the talks would bring about constructive results in the interests of both countries.

Enumerating areas of cooperation between the two states, Salehi expressed satisfaction with the process of implementing the agreements inked by the two countries.

Zebari, for his part, said that Iraq attaches special significance to its ties with Iran.

Referring to his country's historical and religious affinity between the two neighboring states, he said that the two countries' cooperation in various areas have brought great achievements for them.

The two ministers also discussed the ways for developing bilateral ties as well as the capacities for promoting economic cooperation.

They underlined the significance of the establishment of peace and stability and the need for regular consultations between the Iranian and Iraqi officials.
