Iran to launch transit routes with ECCO members

More than 3 million tons of goods were transited through Iran's routes during the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21, 2011).

More than 3 million tons of goods were transited through Iran's routes during the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21, 2011), ISNA reported quoting Deputy Minister of Road & Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh as saying.

"The ministry reviewed the transit agreement between Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Oman and Qatar while Iran and Russia discussed launch of north-south corridors by members of ECCO," he said.

A total of 111 countries transited goods through Iran's transit routes, and the country's southern terminals had major transit rate, he added.

More than 9 million tons were transited through country's route in the last Iranian year (ended on March 20, 2011) and Iran plans to increase the volume of transit goods to 12 million tons in the current year, he said.
