Foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan have called for expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Press TV reported.
During a meeting on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar called for the implementation of agreements signed between the two countries at the Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission meeting last week, IRNA reported.
Salehi and Rabbani Khar also referred to the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline as a very important project and called for the further expansion of bilateral relations.
The Pakistani official also expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its humanitarian aid to the flood-stricken people of Pakistan.
Rabbani Khar is on an official visit to Iran as part of a high-ranking delegation that includes Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Earlier in the week, Salehi went to Islamabad for a two-day visit at the head of the Iranian delegation at the 18th session of the two countries' joint economic commission.
During his stay in Pakistan, Salehi met and conferred with Rabbani Khar and other high-ranking Pakistani officials including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Gilani, and Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
President Zardari also called for closer cooperation between Pakistan and Iran to combat terrorism, saying that terrorism is one of the greatest challenges faced by the two countries.
