Iranian President congratulates Lebanese counterpart with Independence Day

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman with the Lebanese Independence Day on Friday, IRNA news agency reported.

"I would like to congratulate you, the noble Lebanese government and people with the Independence Day in your country," IRNA quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

Ahmadinejad added that he hopes the relations between Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Lebanon will expand and intensify even more.

At the end of his message the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has prayed to Almighty Allah for President Suleiman's health and success and prosperity of the Lebanese government and people.

The governments of Iran and Lebanon have recently taken additional steps to enhance economic and diplomatic cooperation. Lebanese President Michel Suleiman took office in 2008. He has been actively operating to encourage bilateral ties, personally meet with several high-ranking Iranian officials, including the president.

The Iranian and Lebanese officials have held several meetings since 2009 to discuss economic issues of mutual concern. Lebanon has also supported Iran's nuclear program, stressing that Iran's program is merely aimed at peaceful purposes.
