Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast advises regional states that violence is not the way to respond to the legitimate demands of the people, Press TV reported.

Referring to the findings of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, whose members were appointed by the Bahraini king, the Iranian spokesman expressed hope that Manama would avoid violence and suppression and take judicious, democratic measures to meet the people's demands.

"Iran believes that the intervention of foreign military and security forces in internal affairs of these [Persian Gulf] countries will only make the situation more complicated...and widen the gap between nations and governments," he added.

On November 23, head of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry Cherif Bassiouni presented his report on the suppression of anti-government protests to Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

According to the commission's report, Bahraini security forces have used "excessive force" against protesters, physically and mentally tortured detainees, and violated their human rights.

Bassiouni said detainees were beaten with metal pipes and threatened with rape.

The commission also criticized the government for unlawfully arresting anti-regime demonstrators, urging the government to revise verdicts handed to anti-government protesters in military courts and set up a compensation fund for the victims of the crackdown.

Bahrain has been the scene of nationwide protests against the US-backed rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty since mid-February.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds more have been arrested in the crackdown on protesters in the country.
