Iran's experience of its unemployment rate of 14.6 per cent last winter, was the highest on record for the past six years, statistics showed.

However, the unemployment rate declined to 12.3 per cent and 11.1 per cent in the spring and summer this year, the ISNA news agency reported.

The lowest unemployment rate during the past six years was registered in spring 2008, when it was 9.6 per cent. Some one million new jobs have been created in the first half of the current year.

During the previous year, the nation's working population was 25 million, according to the Statistics Centre of Iran.

Earlier this year, the Iranian officials said that the country plans to cut its unemployment rate to seven per cent by the end of 2012 in line with the fifth socio-economic development plan.

The Iranian Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare has proposed a plan for sending up to 100,000 labourers abroad by the end of the fifth five-year development plan (2015) as a bid to ease unemployment problem.

Eighteen countries have been identified as the target for the Iranian workforce.
