Iran, Russia vow to boost strategic ties

Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani has stressed the significance of promoting strategic relations with Russia considering the great potentials of both countries, Press TV reported.

In a Tuesday meeting with Russian Head of Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group Hafiz Salihov in Tehran, Larijani lauded the "growing and amicable" cooperation between the two important nations in the region.

He called on the two countries to utilize their great capabilities to expand Tehran-Moscow ties to the "highest level", IRNA reported.

The top Iranian parliamentarian expressed the willingness of the Majlis to expand political, parliamentary, economic and cultural ties with Russia, saying that developing enhanced cooperation between the two countries is a must.

Larijani further pointed to regional revolutions in the North African and Arab countries and added that the US and the West seek to manipulate regional developments based on their own interests.

Salihov, for his part, said Tehran and Moscow have "growing and effective" cooperation in various fields.

He added that Russia's political officials are determined to bolster the amicable relations with the Islamic Republic, considering "undeniable" commonalties between the two powerful countries in the region.

Salihov also envisaged a bright future in the Tehran-Moscow ties, particularly in political and economic fields.

He further urged Iran and Russia to boost regional and international interactions, saying the two sides should think of ways to strengthen the UN role in resolving regional and global crises.
