The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Afghanistan's Ambassador Obeidollah Abid on Saturday to protest about the recent violation of the country's airspace by a U.S. spy drone, which reportedly entered Iran from Afghanistan, Mehr news agency reported.

The commander of the Aerospace Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said on December 8, "This aircraft is guided by satellite and also from ground stations in Afghanistan and the U.S."

In the protest note that was delivered to the ambassador, the Afghan government was asked to fulfill its obligations regarding the principle of good neighborliness.

The Foreign Ministry's protest note asked the Afghan government to provide an explanation as soon as possible and take the measures necessary to prevent similar incidents.
