Iran’s cement consumption four times more than world average

Per capita consumption of cement in Iran hits four tons, which is four times more than the world's consumption average, the deputy roads and urban development minister said.

Mahmoud Fatemi Aqda told IRNA news agency that through proper planning the consumption can be decreased by 30 percent.

According to the 2025 Outlook Plan, the country's cement output will reach 110 million tons annually, 20 million tons of which will be exported, the official said.

Iran produced 46.5 million tons of cement in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (ended on November 21), which is 9.6 percent more compared to the same period of last year, Pana news agency reported.

The output in the past calendar month hit 5.2 million tons. Iran also produced some 45 million tons of clinker in the eight-month period, up by 12.5 percent year on year.

Previously, Iranian Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari said that the country's current cement production capacity hits 74 million tons.
