Iranian engineers abducted in Syria are in good health: official

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that the seven Iranian engineers who had been kidnapped in Syria in December last year are in complete health, Mehr reported.

An informed source at the Iranian Energy Ministry announced on February 10 that the Iranian engineers had been released. The source claimed that the engineers had been taken out of Syria and would soon be brought to the country through Turkey or Iraq.

Unidentified gunmen abducted five Iranian engineers on December 20 and two others on December 21 in the restive Syrian city of Homs.

Iranians have been the target of abduction by unknown gunmen in Syria over the past few months.

Iranian officials have advised citizens not to go on bus trips to Syria in view of the political situation in the Arab country.
