The Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Company (ISOICO) has managed to build and commission a large offshore jacket platform at the South Pars gas field phase 14.

The jacket, weighing around 2000 tons is the first of four which are being manufactured in the ISOICO. The other three jackets are 90 per cent complete and will be commissioned in the near future, ISNA news agency reported. In December 2011, Iran started drilling operations at the South Pars phase 14.

The phase 14 is projected to be developed at the cost of $5.3 billion by an Iranian consortium comprised of eight contractors and manufacturers, IRNA news agency reported.

The plan is aimed to produce 50 million cubic meters of sweetened gas, 75,000 barrels of condensates and 400 tons of sulphur per day, as well as 1.05 million tons of liquefied gas and one million tons of ethane annually.

The South Pars gas field is shared by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share which is divided into 29 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight per cent of the total world reserves and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.
