Iranian naval forces released a Philippine freighter hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Oman.

The Philippine ship, named Rosita, with 23 crews was attacked by pirates while heading from India toward Qatar, but the Iranian naval forces managed to free the ship, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has said that Navy will dispatch its 20th flotilla of warships to the international waters.

"Iran's Navy will continue dispatching fleet of vessels in waters to protect naval routes and provide security for Iranian merchant vessels and tankers," he stated, the Fars News Agency reported.

Sayyari stated that the Iran's naval fleet will also protect vessels belonging to other countries.

In the latest development, an attempt by pirates to hijack a Panamanian ship was foiled due to the timely action of the Iranian fleet of warships present in the region.
