A member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has said the West should lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic as a measure to show its will to win Iran's trust in nuclear talks.

Ahmad Bakhshayesh told the ISNA News Agency that the six major powers have demanded that Iran stop producing higher grade uranium, ship any stockpiles of 20 per cent enriched uranium out of the country and close down the Fordo underground enrichment facility.

"This is a victory for the country because they have agreed Iran can do enrichment of below five per cent".

He referred to recent talks between Iran and the 5+1 group in Moscow as positive, saying that several sessions should be held in order to be a win-win discussion for the two sides.

Iran and the six major powers agreed during the Moscow talks to hold expert meetings in Istanbul on July 3.

The negotiations were a continuation of talks that were held in Istanbul on April 14 and in Baghdad on May 23 and 24.

On New Year's Eve, the United States imposed new sanctions against Iran aimed at preventing other countries from importing Iran's oil and doing transactions with its central bank.

European Union foreign ministers also approved sanctions against Iran on January 23, including a ban on Iranian oil imports, a freeze on the assets of the country's Central Bank within EU states and a ban on selling diamonds, gold and other precious metals to Tehran.
