Syria can protect itself without Iran's or any outside help, Iran's deputy foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said during press-conference in Oman, ISNA reported.
Amir-Abdollahian is on a visit to Oman, to invite the country to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement summit that is scheduled to be held in Tehran in late August.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a group of states considering themselves not aligned formally with or against any major power bloc. As of 2012, the movement had 120 members and 21 observer countries.
At the conference, Amir-Abdollahian said that the plan of taking down Syria's Assad has failed, adding that Syria is a different country, that is nothing like Libya.
He also noted that time is needed for Kofi Annan's plan on Syria to work, and slammed some countries for using the critical situation in Syria for their own interests.
"Unless there are political decisions made, the region remains under great danger," Amir-Abdollahian said.
The unrests in Syria continue as today some 65 civilian residents were killed as a result of clashes between the Syrian army and armed opposition, Al-Jazeera TV channel reported.
Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than a year.
They turned into an armed struggle between the opposition and units of the power structures of the country. Reports about new armed incidents and victims appear on a regular basis, despite the country having declared a truce since mid-April according to UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan's plan.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria has exceeded 12,000 people. About 230,000 people became refugees.
