Seven kidnapped members of Iran's Red Crescent Society are being held in the Libyan town of Benghazi but their kidnappers have yet to announce what their demands are.

Pooya Hajian, the public relations director for Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) told the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) that Iran continues to work on releasing the seven high ranking IRCS members who had traveled to Libya at the invitation of that country's Red Crescent Society.

Libya's government has condemned the kidnapping and is working to free the Iranians.

Mr. Hajian said although the International Committee of the Red Cross had promised to issue a joint statement with the Red Crescent Society it hasn't done so. Red Cross officials say their representative is pursuing the matter in Benghazi.

The seven Red Crescent members had traveled to Libya to sign an agreement for providing medical equipment to the Libyan people. They were kidnapped after signing the agreement.
