Iran says EU statement is offensive

The Iranian Foreign Ministry reacted angrily on Wednesday to a statement by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in which she had called Iranian officials' stance toward Israel "outrageous and hateful", MNA reported.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast condemned the statement, calling it "rude".

The statement by the EU came as in the Quds Day rallies in Tehran on Friday President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Israel a "cancerous tumor" for its occupation of Palestinian land.

Mehmanparast pointed to six decades of Israel's outright human rights violations in the occupied territories and called on the self-proclaimed defenders of human rights to break their silence toward atrocities being committed by Israel as the "core of instability" in the region.

Mehmanparast said it is necessary that Israel and its defenders to be held accountable to the international community for their behavior, and insisted that the Palestinians should be given the right to determine their fate.
