Iran will begin equipping its forces with long-range domestic anti-aircraft missile systems in 2013, Deputy Defense Minister Mohammad Eslami said today, FARS agency reported.
Eslami said that Iranian-made anti-aircraft missile systems are similar to the Russian anti-aircraft missile system S-300 and can perform the same tasks.
As it is known, earlier Russia and Iran signed a contract to deliver S-300 to the amount of $ 1 billion. However, after the West imposed the embargo on offensive weapon supplies to Tehran, Moscow canceled the contract, even though, it stated that S-300 is defensive, rather than offensive weapon.
