Foreign ministry: Iran ready to help Afghanistan after foreign troop withdrawal

Iran is ready to help in Afghanistan’s restoration after withdrawing foreign troops from the country, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said at the opening of the jubilee session and IV meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the CICA member-states in Astana today.

Iran is ready to help in Afghanistan's restoration after the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said at the opening of the jubilee session and IV meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the CICA member-states in Astana today.

"Iran is also ready to take part in the construction of infrastructure projects in the country," Salehi said.

A jubilee session and IV Meeting of CICA Foreign Ministers has started at the Palace of Independence in Astana today.

The twentieth anniversary of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's proclamation at the UN General Assembly to convene the CICA will be marked on Oct. 5.

Salehi stressed the relevance and necessity of such organisations which are aimed at restoring and maintaining stability and confidence in the Asian continent. In his speech he emphasised there are many threats and challenges requiring common solutions and measures in the region today.

Speaking about the situation in Syria, the minister said that it is necessary to hold negotiations on a peaceful settlement between the government and the opposition.

Regarding Iran's nuclear programme, Salehi said that it is necessary to make a common decision to avoid destroying objects belonging to the peaceful atom.
