Iran's deputy FM for Arab and African affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with new UN Peace Envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi, Fars reported.

Lakhdar Brahimi subsituted Kofi Annan at this post.

The recent developments in Syria, and prevention of sending weapons to armed groups in the country were discussed at the meeting.

Amir-Abdollahian underlined Iran's support for the Syrian people and president Bashar Al-Assad's reform plan in the country.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for over 17 months.
