Iran's Health Ministry has revealed the latest statistics, according to which, there are 2,200 million of permanent drug users in the country, Fars reported.

Health Ministry's Chief of Mental Health Department Qholam Abbas Nasehi said that in 2007 the number of permanent drug addicts was a lot lower - some 1,200 million people.

He added that among those 1,200 million, about 800,000 people were into extremely heavy drugs.

Nasehi noted that since the number of drug addicts has increased since 2007, the number of heavy drug users has probably increased as well. He did not reveal the statistics on those.

In June 2012, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Labour and Social Protection Abdullah Emadi revealed that there are some 2 million of drug addicts in Iran, adding that 8 million of people in Iran suffer from drug related issues.

According to Iranian media outlets, there are already two such anti-drug labor camps in Iran, and more are planned to be opened for a total of 5-7 in the whole country.
