Tehran on Tuesday denounced the new European Union sanctions on Iran as "illegal" and "inhuman", MNA reported.
EU governments agreed further sanctions against Iran's banking, shipping and industrial sectors on Monday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the sanctions will not force Iran to abandon its peaceful nuclear program.
"They cannot force the Iranian nation to surrender and retreat," Mehmanparast told a news briefing.
He added, "This sort of acts will encourage the Iranian nation to continue on its way, strongly."
