Iran has implemented a quite unique, air taxi service in the country, Mehr reported.

Iran has implemented a quite unique, air taxi service in the country, Mehr reported.

Thus far, the helicopter taxis only work via the Tabriz - Aras Economic zone, and in the future it is planned to implement the service in Iran's capital as well.

The Tabriz - Aras route is of 138 kilometers, and the air taxis can take passengers from one destination to another in some 40 minutes.

In May of 2007, it has been planned to launch air taxi service via "East-West" and "South-North" routes across Tehran.

At first the air taxis were intended for foreign guests and government officials, while for local residents such service would have been available at a later stages.

However at the time, the project was never implemented.
