At least 200,000 children under age 6 in Iran suffer from food poverty, General director of Imam Khomeini Relief Committee's Social and Health insurance department, Nasser Iravanimanesh said.
"There are about 12,000 people in Iran who have incurable diseases, and our committee is only able to treat 5,000 of them," he noted, adding that of those 5,000, 3000 have tuberculosis.
Iravanimanesh expressed hope that the funding for the committee will be increased in the near future, as it is necessary for the proper care for the patients.
He added that to fully cover the expenses, the committee requires a budget of over $80 million.
Imam Khomeini's Relief Committee (also Imam Khomeini's Relief Foundation) was founded in March 1979 as a charity organization to provide support for poor families. The aim is to help such families regain financial stability.
