Iran has rejected recent claims by the Canadian government about alleged links between Tehran and al-Qaeda suspects seized in Canada, ISNA reported.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Iran is opposed to all acts of terrorism committed across the world.

Canadian officials previously said two al-Qaeda elements have been arrested in connection with a foiled plot to derail a passenger train in Toronto.

Ottawa claims these suspects were linked to al-Qaeda elements based in Iran.

Mehmanparast, however, dismissed the allegations as part of Canada's anti-Iran campaign and its attempts to create an atmosphere of Iranophobia.

He slammed the Western countries' double standards in dealing with terrorism.

Mehmanparast called on the US and Western countries to end their support for al-Qaeda-linked terrorists killing innocent civilians in Syria.
