Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has called a possible strike on Syria - an "Israeli trap", IRINN reported.
In particular, Iran's FM said the plans to "punish Syria for using chemical weapons on citizens" a "scheme, an Israeli trap for the international community".
"Accelerating the crisis in Syria would never be limited to one restricted country," Zarif said.
Iranian FM went on to note that the UN should step in and take an active role in solving the Syrian crisis.
"Those who claim the Syrian government has used chemical weapons against its citizens are those who provided help to Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons during the 8-year war with Iran," Zarif underscored.
Zarif did not mention any specific country, however on August 26 Foreign Policy reported about unclassified CIA documents that say the U.S. knew about Hussein's chemical arsenal.
"America's military and intelligence communities knew about... and did nothing to stop a series of nerve gas attacks far more devastating than anything Syria has seen," Foreign Policy wrote.
U.S. officials have long denied acquiescing to Iraqi chemical attacks, insisting that Hussein's government never announced he was going to use the weapons. Retired Air Force Col. Rick Francona, who was a military attache in Baghdad during the 1988 strikes, said that the U.S. already knew about the weapons.
Previously in a phone talk with German counterpart Guido Westerwelle, Zarif condemned the recent chemical attack in Syria and called for the completion of the ongoing UN inspection into the issue.
Iranian FM also slammed any potential foreign military intervention in Syria and warned that hasty decision-makings and subsequent ramifications of a probable military action will exacerbate the crisis.
Zarif called for the adoption of peaceful measures to resolve the situation in an attempt to prevent the spillover of tension and war into other parts of the Middle East.
