Rumors on Iran's IRGC commanding rebels to attack U.S. embassies are baseless, spokesman of Iran's office in UN, Alireza Miriyoussef said, Mehr news agency reported.

"This is a politically motivated act to encourage and pressure U.S. congress to approve a military strike on Syria," he said.

Recently, WSJ published a report that says a message from Iran's IRGC's Quds force commander Qhasem Soleimani to Shiite militia groups in Iraq was intercepted, according to U.S. officials.

In the message, Soleimani said Shiite groups must be prepared to respond with force after a U.S. strike on Syria.

The Wall street Journal report further noted that US officials believe the US embassies in Baghdad and Beirut are likely targets for Iranian-backed terror groups.

On Sept. 6, the US Embassy in Beirut announced it was drawing "down non-emergency personnel and family members from Embassy Beirut due to threats to U.S. Mission facilities and personnel."

Similarly, a travel warning issued by the State Department on Sept. 5 warned "U.S. citizens against all but essential travel to Iraq."

Some Western and regional countries supported intervention to Syria, after another escalation of the situation in the country. On August 21 media outlets reported large scale use of chemical weapons near Damascus by Syrian Government Troops.

After the incident the parties of the conflict repeatedly declared their innocence accusing their opponents.

Earlier, the US president declared that the use of chemical weapon is a "red line" for the Assad regime. Media outlets reported on the preparation of the Navy and Air Force of these countries to begin intervention.

Clashes between the government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years.

According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 100,000 people. The Syrian authorities say they are opposed by well-armed militants.
