Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh appointed Roknoddin Javadi as Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), PANA news agency reported.

Javadi who replaced Ahmad Qalebani is the Managing Director of Iran's Oil Industries Engineering and Construction Company (OIEC) which is contractor of several major projects of NIOC including South Pars phase 20, 21 and Azar oilfield.

Javadi served as Managing Director of National Iranian Gas export Company (NIGEC) during ex-president Mohammad Khatami`s administration who signed Crescent Gas Contract on behalf of the Iran's Oil Ministry.

Zanganeh also appointed board members of the NIOC for next three years.

Under the Crescent Gas Contract, worth up to $1 billion, Iran agreed to daily export some 500 million cubic feet of natural gas from the Salman gas field to UAE.

The 25-year gas contract was signed between UAE`s Crescent Petroleum Company and Iran. Zanganeh was accused of unclearness in signing contract, when he was Iran's Oil Minister in 2001.
The contract has also been criticized for having gas prices listed in it lower than the prices on the world market.
