Iran is the largest and main supplier of cement to Iraqi Kurdistan, IRNA reported.

Some 450 trailers carrying Iranian cement bags enter Kurdistan per day. Each cement bag is sold at 150,000 rials (about $6).

Consumers in Iraqi Kurdistan are satisfied with both the quality and price of the Iranian cement.

In June, the Fars News Agency quoted the chairman of the Association of Iranian Cement Exporters, Abdorreza Sheikhan as saying that Iranian cement exporters have increased the cement export price to Iraq by five dollars per ton.

The restriction for exporting cement to Iraq has been removed he said, adding that Iranian companies will establish a cement factory in Iraq with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons.

Currently, Iran exports up to eight million tons of cement to Iraq annually, he noted. Iraq with 63 per cent is Iran's biggest cement importer.

Mohammad Fatemian, an official with the Industry, Mine, and Trade Ministry said on June 9 that Iran plans to export 18.5 million tons of cement in the current Iranian calendar year which ends March 20, 2014.

Iran exported cement to 24 countries including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Oman, India and China in the past Iranian year.
