Oman's embassy in Canada will be representing Iran's interests in this country, Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said, IRINN reported.
"While Oman will represent Iran's interests in Canada, Canadian interests will be represented by Italian embassy in Iran, Afkham said today at the weekly press conference in Tehran.
Commenting on Iran-UK relations, Afkham said that Tehran and London agreed to maintain ties at the level of non-resident chargés d'affaires and the UK embassy in Tehran will be reopened.
After Hassan Rouhani was chosen as new president of Iran in June of this year, the newly formed presidential administration has set goals on improving country's foreign policy, and normalizing relations with other countries.
In 2012, Canada closed its embassy in Iran and declared personae non gratae all remaining Iranian diplomats in Canada, which were expelled from the country and shut its embassy in Tehran, severing all diplomatic relations with Iran. The official decision was made due to Canada's position towards Iran's previous regime, and country's nuclear program.
Regarding the United Kingdom, in 2011, Iranian lawmakers voted by a large majority to downgrade diplomatic ties with the United Kingdom, in response to Britain's decision to impose sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran over the allegation that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Two days after the decision by Iran's Majlis, hundreds of Iranian students staged a protest outside the British Embassy in Tehran and pulled down the UK flag.
On November 30 of the same year, London cut off its ties with Tehran, withdrew its diplomatic staff from Iran and the Iranian Embassy in London was closed.
