Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.16
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A delegation from Russia will come to Iran by the end of February to continue talks on the establishment of the second phase of Bushehr nuclear plant, the Mehr News Agency quoted spokesman of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi as saying on February 16.

We are currently negotiating with Russia, Kamalvandi said, adding that the talks will be probably finalized by the next two months.

Iran hopes to start construction of a new power plant in the city of Bushehr, Fars News Agency quoted Head of the AEOI Ali-Akbar Salehi as saying on January 10.

Salehi noted that the building of the plant will take about 8 years.

On December 29, 2013, Salehi said, "We had an agreement that the capacity of the nuclear power plant, which Russia will build in Iran will be about 5 thousand megawatts."

In February 2013, Salehi said that the Bushehr NPP has been producing 1000 megawatts of energy, and 4000 is yet to be produced.

"I hope that together with colleagues from Russia it will be possible to begin the construction of the second power plant in Bushehr, in the near future," he said.

On the 24th of August, 1992, the government of the Russian Federation and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran signed an agreement concerning the cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy and on August 25, 1992 the agreement to build the nuclear power plant in Iran was signed.

In January 1995 the contract concerning the construction completion of power unit 1 of the plant was signed.

In 1998 an addendum to the contract was signed under which Atomstroyexport was to complete the construction of one power unit of 1000 megawatt installed capacity with a V-446 reactor installation on the turn-key terms. Since 2012 the project has been implemented by the United Company NIAEP-ASE.
