Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is planning to appoint a new ambassador to represent Tehran at the United Nations office in New York, Farsnews reported.

Hamid Abou Talebi will replace Mohammad Khazayee as Iran's ambassador to the UN.

Abou Talebi, a veteran diplomat, has held key European posts in the past. He joined the Iranian foreign ministry in the early 1980s.

Abou Talebi has served as Iran's ambassador to Italy, Belgium and Australia.

Abou Talebi will arrive in New York next month, Reuters quoted sources as saying.

Khazayee has served as Iran's ambassador to the UN since 2007.
