Iran bans reformist newspaper (UPDATE)

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 7

By Umid Niayesh - Trend:

The reformist Iranian Ghanoon newspaper was banned by judiciary order.

Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabdi has imposed a ban on reformist newspaper due to "publishing untrue information," Iran's Fars news agency reported on May 7.

No further details have been released on the issue.

The privately owned, non-governmental Tehran- based Ghanoon (Law) newspaper has been published since October, 2012 and launched initially as an online news website in August 2011.

However, the newspaper's Policy Making Council's head, Alireza Nikouei dismissed reports about the ban saying that the Tehran prosecutor has prepared an indictment against the newspaper because of some reports about the former head of Iranian fuel management committee.
