Iran claims its abducted border guard not executed

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 14

By Umid Niayesh - Trend:

The Iranian Border Guard commander has claimed that the last abducted Iranian border guard Jamshid Danaeifar is still alive.

Sergeant Danaeifar was not executed by Jaish-ul-Adl group according to the evidence, Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaghari said, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on May 14.

Danaeifar and his four comrades (Sajjad Zahani, Mohammad Nezami, Ramin Hazrati and Jamshid Teimouri) were kidnapped on Feb. 6 by members of the Jaish-ul-Adl group in the Jakigour region of Iran's south eastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

On April 6, four Iranian soldiers were released by the Jaish-ul-Adl who had earlier claimed that they executed Danaeifar. Previously Iranian officials repeatedly announced that Danaeifar's fate was unclear as there was no accurate information about his situation.

Zolfaghari went on to say that Iran continues its efforts to obtain Danaeifar's release.
The commander also responded to the criticism about inexperienced soldiers serving on the country's borders, saying "these statements are not professional."
