Commander: PJAK terrorists killed by Iranian forces

Army Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan announced on Sunday that a number of terrorist insurgents affiliated to PJAK (Party of Free Life of Kurdistan) who were trying to penetrate into the Iranian territory were killed, IRNA reported.

Army Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan announced on Sunday that a number of terrorist insurgents affiliated to PJAK (Party of Free Life of Kurdistan) who were trying to penetrate into the Iranian territory were killed, IRNA reported.

The PJAK is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workersˈ Party (PKK) which is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the US, EU and much of the international community.

PJAK mainly engages in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the countryˈs border with Iraq.

Commander Pourdastan said that a team of the terrorist insurgents were trying to cross the borderline into the country on Saturday but failed to do so thanks to the vigilance of the Iranian troops.

He termed the operation as a hard blow to the insurgent grouplet given the fact that the killed terrorists were carrying packs of explosives into the country.

The brigadier general further stressed the high capabilities of the Iranian forces in protecting borderlines.
