The government is set to start distributing a new round of food packages for over 7.5m needy people in Iran, IRNA reported.

The food package, worth about 1,200,000 rials ($40), will be distributed among families covered by Imam Khomeini Relief Committee and State Welfare Organization.

The food packages include meat, eggs, rice, dairy, edible oil, cereal and other food items.

This will be the second food package to be distributed among the people since President Hassan Rouhani took office in August last year.

Last year, the government distributed food packages for millions of citizens both to help those with low income and to try to lower inflation on food.

President Rouhani said the handouts are intended to 'ease the pressure' on Iranians and demonstrate some of the immediate benefits from the recent interim nuclear agreement with world powers.

All government employees and citizens earning less than five million rials a month are eligible to receive the food package.
