Iran seeks to replace crude oil sale by increasing the capacity of its refineries to replace crude oil with oil products, said member of Education and Research Committee of Iranian Parliament.

"The sanctions situation is an opportunity to reduce dependency on oil exports by using other domestic resources and create foreign currency revenues," said Javad Saadati Nejad, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

"While oil sale is facing challenges, we can develop petrochemical refineries in the country and expand oil products exports instead to confront sanctions in long term," he noted.

"The economy will be transformed by implementing development plans in petrochemical refineries, as export of oil products is more efficient for economic growth," he said. "The Persian Gulf Star Refinery can resolve many problems in oil sector. If we launch similar refineries, all the problems in oil sale will be solved."

"Tax revenues and removing tax exemptions is one more solution to reduce dependency on oil exports; in the meantime, mine sector can be a replacement for crude oil," he added.
