Russia won't allow resolution giving pretext for use of force in Iran issue

Iran Materials 4 May 2006 11:37 (UTC +04:00)

(Interfax) - Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said the UN Security Council's resolution on Iran, in the form proposed by Britain and France, has a little chance of being approved.

"Our basic position is that the resolution must not provide the slightest pretext for issuing threats of use of force in settling this problem," Churkin told the press on Thursday, according to Russia's Channel One.

"We are convinced that the problem cannot be solved by applying force," said Churkin.
