(IRNA) - Tehran Prosecutor General Saeed Mortazavi said that Iran is concerned over the instrumental use of human rights by the West and hegemonic states.
Mortazavi told IRNA on Monday that the human rights in its true sense is a holy concept, to which special attention is paid in divine cultures and religions, adding that such a concept should not be misused by some hegemonic powers, reports Trend.
He referred to Islamophobia, incidents in Palestine, horrible things in Guantanamo Bay detention center, the US prison in Kosovo, the catastrophes caused by Americans in Afghanistan's Bagram prison and extensive torture of inmates in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison by the US as part of cases of human rights violation which should be examined by the UN Human Rights Council.
Mortazavi underlined that to prevent such human disasters, the UN Human Rights Council should seek proper strategies.
The Tehran prosecutor general, accompanied by a number of judicial officials, including Justice Minister Jamal Karimi-Rad left for Geneva, Switzerland Monday morning to attend the first meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During his stay in Geneva, Mortazavi will confer with a number of representatives of the countries attending the meeting to discuss matters of mutual concern.
The newly founded council started its activity in Geneva Monday and will continue up to June 22. It will be attended by the high-ranking representatives of more than 100 countries.
