Bank Accounts of Turkish Citizens in Overseas Banks Reach 18.3 Billion Dollars

(zaman.com) - The deposits of Turkish citizens in overseas banks surpassed $18 billion last year.

According to the figures revealed by the Turkish Central Bank, in 2004, Turkish citizens deposited $4.3 billion in overseas banks, bringing the total to $18.294 billion, an increase of $4.294 billion over the past year, reports Trend.

The Central Bank collects this data from statistics provided by the Bank for International Settlements.

The figures reveal that Turkish citizens residing in Turkey have been steadily depositing greater sums of money in overseas banks since the 2001 economic crisis in Turkey.
