New appointments in Turkish army

The three-day annual session of the Supreme Military council of Turkey has ended.

Trend[s special correspondent reports from Ankara, due to Prime Minister Erdogans leave to Malaysia the Military Council chaired Defense Secretary Vechdi Konul.

Upon appointing General Yashar Boyukanit the chief of Joint Staff of Turkish Military Forces, the Council examined some other replacements. In particular, General Ilker Bashbug was recommended to the post of land forces commander instead of promoted General Boyukanit.

General Bashbugs post of First Army Commander is recommended to appoint to General Shukru Sariishik, Commander of Second Army.

General Ishik Koshener, second chief of Joint Staff, was recommended for promotion to commander of gendarme forces of the country. General Fevzi Turkeri, former commander of gendarme forces, has retired.

General Ergun Saygun was appointed the second chief of Joint Staff of Turkish Military Forces.

The big group of high military officers was also replaced, promoted or dismissed. The official appointment of all these is announced upon approval by President Sezer.
