(Itar-Tass) - The UN Security Council is continuing strenuous work to draft a resolution on Lebanon, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin told Russian journalists on Tuesday, reports Trend.

He said the new important element is the proposal of the Lebanese government to deploy its 15,000-strong military contingent in the southern part of the country. "Taking into account this new factor the UN Security Council is continuing work that will hopefully result in a draft resolution satisfying all, including the Lebanese government," Churkin stressed. "Not only we, but also other Security Council members have a great desire to adopt the resolution as soon as possible. But the problem is very complicated, because the agreement of the sides is required," the Russian diplomat noted.
