(IRNA) - Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad-Reza Sheibani here Thursday said that Islamic Iran would always support Palestine and the oppressed.
Sheibani made the remark while addressing a meeting with the leading Lebanese religious and political figures during an Iftar (fast breaking) reception held at Iran's embassy in Lebanon, reports Trend.
"Iran's support for the oppressed people will be continued as an unchangeable and principled policy of the country based on ideals of the (founder of the Islamic Revolution) the late Imam Khomeini and the guidelines of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and the emphasis laid by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government," he said.
Pointing to resistance of the Lebanese nation against recent aggressions by the Zionist regime, he added, "Great victory of the Lebanese people at the war proved that enemies just understand the language of resistance.
"This reality will be regarded as a model for liberation of Palestine and the Holy Qods." The ambassador stated that victory and resistance of the Lebanese nation was a new chapter in resistance of the oppressed against the bullying powers.
Referring to pressure imposed on the Palestinian government and nation to undermine their determination for resistance against the Zionist regime, the United States and the West, Sheibani said the Palestinians would obtain their full rights just through reinforcing unity.
He added that experience of previous decades proved that relying on big powers and resolutions of the United Nations and the Security Council on Lebanon and Palestine would only cover up crimes of the Zionist regime.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of representatives of various Lebanese political, cultural and religious establishments including envoys of parliament speaker and Hezbollah party.
