Bangkok supports Iran's bid for membership in WTO: minister

(IRNA) - Thai Commerce Minister Kroekrai Chiraphaet Wednesday in Bangkok voiced his country's support for Iran's bid for membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO).

During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Bangkok Mohsen Pak-Ayeen, he said all Asian states, including Thailand, favor Iran's joining the WTO.

Highlighting Iran's rich potential for trade, he expressed his satisfaction with the current volume of trade exchanges between the two countries, reports Trend.

Welcoming the commercial agreements that have been inked with Iran, he said trade accords can help boost bilateral cooperation between the two states.

The Thai minister also called for increased participation of the two states' private sectors in the exchange of goods and services.

Expressing his felicitations to the new Thai government, the Iranian envoy expressed hope the positive trend in bilateral ties would continue and ties would receive a further boost.

Underlining the importance of expansion of Tehran-Bangkok trade ties, he said establishment of close relations with Asian states, particularly member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a priority in Iranian foreign policy.
