(IRNA) - Iran and Jordan focussed on the need to bolster their bilateral cooperation in various economic and commercial fields, reports Trend.

The head of the Iran-Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Heshmatollah Falahat-Pisheh, who heads a parliamentary delegation currently in Amman for an official visit, met with Jordanian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Montaser Oklah.

Stressing the importance of the two countries' economic ties, he called on their joint cooperation commission to hold a session as soon as possible, saying "economic issues need to be tackled from an economic standpoint."

Falahat-Pisheh, who is a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said the two countries' current trade volume stood at USD 60 million.

Oklah, for his part, called for increased trade exchanges between Tehran and Amman.

He expressed his country's readiness to host a session of the two countries' joint cooperation commission anytime in the first quarter of 2007.

The 9th session of the commission was to be held in Amman on July 11-13 but was postponed upon a request of the Jordanian side.

An Iranian eight-member delegation comprising members of the Iran-Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Group arrived in Amman for a week-long visit on Friday.

The delegation of MPs is scheduled to hold talks with their Jordanian counterparts. On the sidelines, they will also tour some economic and tourist sites of Jordan.

A Jordanian parliamentary delegation paid a visit to Iran in March.
