(IRNA) The head of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council, Hassan Rowhani, here Saturday stressed the need for Iran to attain political and economic stability in order to achieve its goals.

"Undoubtedly, increasing its capital would promote development," he said in his inaugural address at a first-ever conference organized to consider ways of boosting financing for the oil industry, reports Trend.

"Oil is a source of political, economic and security power for Iran in the region. It has a specific position," he added.

He assessed as "dangerous" the insecurity that characterizes sources of financing for long-term projects, saying "Iran needs secure, easy and cheap capital."

He said that ways to realize the goals of the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan have been mapped out in the plan, but that these goals would be achieved faster with more available capital.

"All nations have their own objectives and goals consistent with their beliefs, cultures, values and interests. It will be impossible for peoples to achieve their goals if they have no management, strategies and plans and if their goals are not nationalized." The EC official said strengthening of national power is among the goals of the Iranian nation, and highlighted the importance of a strong national will to achieve the country's goals.

"The Iranian people were able to achieve their national goals and achieved freedom and independence following the victory of the Islamic Revolution (in 1979) and establishment of an Islamic Republic of Iran.

"If development remains an ideal for the nation, it will never be materialized. But if it is made a national goal, it will be," Rowhani said.

He voiced optimism that with the drafting of the 20-Year Vision Plan, Iran will become a developed country by 2025. Materialization of the plan will make Iran the top economic, scientific and technological country in the region, he added.

He said achieving such a towering goal depends on the Iranian nation's presence.

"The vision plan can be achieved if the Iranian people take it as a national goal and if they are determined to achieve it.
