(IRNA) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Sunday that the UN Security Council approved the anti-Iran resolution to save the face of the US and Britain.

Speaking in a cabinet session, the president said approval of the UNSC Resolution 1737 would have no impact on the collective will of the Iranian nation to reach the "highest points of scientific progress."

Iran has achieved peaceful nuclear technology and long-range missile technology relying on its domestic potentials, said the president stressing that Tehran was completely committed to international laws and treaties regarding its peaceful nuclear activities, reports Trend.

"Those who resorted to resolutions to impose sanctions on Iran should notice that during the past 27 years, they have been preventing transfer of any nuclear technology or nuclear equipment to the country based on an unwritten sanction," Ahmadinejad argued.

He criticized the double standards of international organizations (such as the International Atomic Energy Agency) in dealing with Iran nuclear case stressing, "Their illegal behavior has caused Iran to revise its relations with them."

He reiterated that the resolution would by no means affect the unity and cooperation of the Iranian nation.
