Iran Materials 25 December 2006 17:50 (UTC +04:00)

(hurriyet) - Saying until now that The candidate for presidency will be chosen by the assembly from within, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoСЂan has for the first time stated, The presidential candidate may apply from outside of the assembly, reports Trend.

Appearing on ATV's One-to-One television program the previous night, ErdoСЂan answered questions on the presidential elections such as, Is there a possibility that the Party will produce more than one candidate?

There is a possibility, he said. The party is not going to select the candidates. Any Member of Parliament can pose his candidature. There could also be candidates from outside of the Parliament, provided they are voted in by a third of the Parliament. An MP has a higher chance for success.

Mr. ErdoСЂan had previously said, on 8th November 2006, that The Parliament must produce its own candidate for Presidency.
