(zaman) - Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Gul, announced that 2007 will not be a lost year for Turkey and that the country was determined to carry on with the reform process for its future.

Gul spoke at the beginning of a meeting with officials in charge of country's relationship with European Union (EU), convened to determine Turkey's roadmap regarding the EU bid process.

In his televised speech, the minister said that the Cyprus issue was used as an obstacle before Turkey and that the negotiation process would continue along with all other technical preparations, reports Trend.

"If necessary we can open the chapters ourselves and close them again. Once we are ready, the chapters can be negotiated with the European Union in one day" said Gul.

Gul said that Turkey needed the reforms, and continued: "2007 will not be a lost year. New laws will be submitted to the parliament during 2007 and be enacted. We will issue our own roadmap."
